Midcoast Council - Economic Development

 The Economic Development section works to maximise the value of current and emerging economic opportunities across the MidCoast region so that it is recognised as an excellent location to invest and grow a business; this team works in partnership with the private sector to facilitate and promote economic development by identifying the specific economic needs and challenges faced by the community. Midcoast Council - Destination Management

Destination Management (Tourism) supports tourism development and growth in the visitor economy ensuring the MidCoast region is recognised as a unique destination with a diversity of signature experiences; this team works with key stakeholders to grow the visitor economy and develop signature experiences as well as providing direct services to the visiting public. MidCoast Council - Development Assessment

 Development Assessment enacts the regulatory framework and services for land use in the MidCoast Local Government Area. The work undertaken is an important indicator of the state of the local economy with the essence of the departments work aiming to make the MidCoast Council Local Government  Area better place to live. The core functions of the department are to assess development applications, provide professional planning advice on development matters including pre lodgement consultation advice.

Midcoast Council - Strategic planning

 Strategic Planning is an outward focused function that supports the delivery of sustainable land use planning outcomes by preparing planning studies, strategies and masterplans that establish the principles to guide growth and conservation. These strategies are then given statutory effect by Council's Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and Development Control Plan (DCP). 

Midcoast Council - Environmental health

 Environmental Health team work in collaboration with all departments within Council to ensure that staff, visitors and the community are not adversely affected by factors that can potentially impact on human health. Environmental health provides the basis of public health and includes ensuring the provision of safe drinking water supplies, recreational use of water, sewage management, public swimming pools, skin penetration industries, funeral industries, air quality, waste management, and basic hygiene. Other aspects of environmental health which are routinely dealt with by Council environmental health officers includes: noise, air and odour control, pollution incidents, contaminated land issues, and the regulation of retail food businesses.

MidCoast Council - Natural Systems

Natural Systems is responsible for the protection and management of the natural environment to achieve community expectations and legislative requirements. The team has a focus on developing and implementing policy, strategy and procedures for managing the landscape and the natural assets while developing and maintaining partnerships with landholders, industry, agencies and community.

Women in Business

The Women in Business group meets once a month. The group consists of women in the local area from a broad spectrum of businesses. Each month a different guest speaker presents. Throughout the year we cover a diverse range of topics and interests all while enjoying a women’s networking lunch.

TAFE NSW offers over 1,200 courses with a wide range of study options from online courses to diplomas and degrees, training and fulltime education.

Choose from a range of study options from agriculture to retail. There’s bound to be a course to suit your business requirements.

Is funded by the NSW Government. It is a dedicated and personalised program that provides advice to help you grow your small business.

Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner

The role of the Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner is to help small businesses operate as professionally, as efficiently and as successfully as they can. Support provided by the Office includes:

Serving as a neutral party in mediation and dispute resolution between small businesses or between a small business and a larger one or between a small business and government.

Providing high quality business advice and advisors with access to world class tools.

Speaking up for small businesses within government.

NSW Easy to do Business program

Brings agencies, local councils and industry bodies together to make the process of opening or expanding a small business simpler and faster. The current focus is on cafes, restaurants and small bars. North Sydney Council joined the program on 29 June 2018.



The Edmund Barton Centre

The Edmund Barton Centre has been created to help sustain economies across regional Australia. It achieves this by providing assistance to new start up and existing businesses. The Edmund Barton Centre has a discrete and well proven reputation established over more than seven years in assisting clients through its StartUp Business Development Program and the Key Business Enhancement Program. The Edmund Barton Centre’s Inspire Program, creating a business friendly environment, is about driving business innovation through working with new and existing industries, industry bodies and all levels of government in the region to bring about positive change to the business environment. The role as a champion of Business Excellence will continue to grow and expand the region’s economic capability.

NSW Business Chamber

The NSW Business Chamber is the state's peak business organisation. It is an independent not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to helping businesses of all sizes to maximise their potential.


Regional Development Australia

Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast (RDAMNC) is a small not for profit organisation whose role is to support the economic development of our region which spans the local government areas of Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Nambucca, Kempsey, Port-Hastings, Lord Howe Island and the community of Taree. RDA's current priorities include attracting investment to the region, creating opportunities in employment for young people and stimulating innovation across the region.

 An online government resource for the Australian business community providing a range of free tools and resources. The website focuses on all areas of planning, starting, running and exiting a business, including links to various government websites.

 New Enterprise Incentive Scheme

Provides eligible unemployed people assistance with training, mentoring, income support and rental assistance to help them to become a self-employed business owner.

provides centralised publication of forecast and current Australian Government grant opportunities and grants awarded.
